Symphonic World

Nox: Tenebrae Lucis continues Auerbach’s string-symphony cycle as a meditation on night and the dark condition of light. Where Vespera: Memoria Lucis belongs to evening and memory, Nox enters the realm of shadow, concealment and inward illumination.

Written for string orchestra, the work uses the expressive concentration of strings to create a nocturnal symphonic space: tense, veiled, fragile and luminous from within.

Night: Darkness of Light.

As an independent concert work, it can stand alone; within the cycle, it becomes the nightward counterpart to the memory of evening light.
