Composer’s Note

Lonely Suite is described by the composer as an exploration of loneliness and fragmentation. Written after the violin-and-piano cycle Oskolki, the suite carries the thoughts of separation and broken memories further into a solo violin world.

The work is about one’s own fears, silence, and facing oneself without escape. Its subtitle, Ballet for a Lonely Violinist, frames the performer not only as instrumentalist, but also as a solitary theatrical figure.

A solo violin ballet of loneliness, broken memory and self-confrontation.
  • Form Six-movement suite.
  • Duration Approximately 9 minutes.
  • Forces Solo violin.

Context

The suite stands among Auerbach’s works for solo violin as a compact theatrical cycle. Its movement titles create a psychological sequence: a dance with oneself, boredom, the inability to escape, imaginary dialogue, worry, and an unanswered question.

The music is published with T’filah for solo violin, forming a paired publication that brings together two concentrated solo works of very different expressive worlds.
