Suite for Cello and Piano is a shorter concert suite drawn from Lera Auerbach’s 24 Preludes for Cello and Piano. It selects nine movements from the larger cycle and reshapes them as a concise work for recital programming.

The selected movements preserve the contrasts of the full cycle: lyric introspection, volatile motion, dance-like instability, tragic weight, and a final movement of vivid forward momentum.

Auerbach’s larger cello-and-piano prelude cycle follows the circle of fifths through the full tonal spectrum. The suite does not attempt to reproduce the full architectural span of the twenty-four movements; instead, it creates a smaller recital form from selected preludes.

Because the suite is derived from the larger cycle, it is closely connected to the same musical world as 24 Preludes for Cello and Piano and Postlude for Cello and Piano.
