Russian premiere of Lera Auerbach‘s “Diabellical Waltz“ by Rudolf Buchbinder

The pianist Rudolf Buchbinder is on a world tour with his spectacular “Diabelli Project 2020”. Part of the project is also the composition “Diabellical Waltz“ by Lera Auerbach, which will be premiered in Russia on July 15, 2020 at Buchbinders Recital in St. Petersburg.

The background of the project is the waltz in C major, which Viennese music publisher Anton Diabelli had composed and sent to a number of composers of his day requesting they compose variations based on this piece. The Buchbinder project now transfers this idea into the 21st century. Buchbinder was inspired by the 33 variations on a waltz by Anton Diabelli, op. 120 by Beethoven, which hold a special place in the composer’s oeuvre and have played a significant role in the art of variation in subsequent epochs.

“The Diabellical Project” has been released on CD by Deutsche Grammophon.
